Welcome to "Save the Cupola!"

The Cupola Restoration Project of Penn Yan, NY is committed to the restoration and placement of the Empire State Winery Building Cupola near its historic location in the vicinity of the junction of Keuka Lake and the Keuka Lake Outlet. Our preferred location is along the Keuka Outlet Trail - which is ideally suited to tell the history of the grape and wine industries and will attract boaters from Keuka Lake, tourists, and customers to Penn Yan and its lodging and retail businesses - as well as local residents and school children - contributing to the economic growth and vitality of Penn Yan and the surrounding area of Yates County, New York.

Our Vision

Our plan is to Save the Cupola by restoring the Cupola and placing it where it can be viewed by all.

We want an easily accessible site that provides walkability, is safe, and can be enjoyed by all.

Ultimately, we want to preserve this historic icon of Yates' past - linking our past to our future. We envision wayfaring signs with historical information, displays inside the Cupola for viewing, and education programs for our area school children. We believe that the careful restoration of the Cupola will respect our past, enhancing the waterway and our natural resources.

Our goal is that this will be a project that enhances our community and instills a sense of pride in all parts of our greater Yates County community that will stand for generations to come.

We have BIG News!

Annual Campaign

The Board of the "Save the Cupola!" project is excited to announce that we are launching our 2025 Annual Campaign to support the Cupola. This comes on the heals of our acquiring a parcel of land along the mouth of the Keuka Outlet , just a short walk from the Empire State Winery's original location!

In May 2024, the Cupola was moved from its resting spot on the Penn Yan Village property due to concerns of the Village Board regarding vandalism and other liability. Jason Hoover and family and Doug Marchionda Sr, along with grandson Anthony Marchionda were instrumental in this process.
